Fictional Northstar Monitoring reports device revenue on delivery and monitoring revenue as service occurs. Its draft note combines both in one total. The contract-balance file reconciles opening and ending receivables, contract assets, and contract liabilities. It identifies an amount recognized from the opening contract liability and a significant modification effect, but the note omits both explanations.

One controlled RPO schedule reports $1,200,000 at the start of the year. New allocated consideration is $800,000. A modification reduces RPO by $50,000, revenue recognized from the population is $650,000, cancellations remove $75,000, and currency adds $25,000. There is no acquisition effect. Northstar assigns $750,000 to the next 12 months and $500,000 thereafter.

Northstar applies the short-duration exemption to a separate population and has constrained a $90,000 performance bonus outside transaction price. Management backlog includes unsigned renewals and does not use the RPO cancellation assumptions. The note says that all backlog will become cash revenue next year.

Rewrite the note outline, calculate and reconcile ending RPO and its timing bands, and correct the backlog claim. State the exemption and constrained- consideration disclosures. End with the filing-evidence and calculation boundaries.

Use ASC 606-10-50-1 through 50-12 for the main revenue disclosure requirements. Use ASC 606-10-50-13 through 50-16 for remaining performance obligations.

Northstar should disaggregate revenue between devices recognized on delivery and monitoring recognized as service occurs if those categories depict how economic factors affect its revenue and cash flows. It should relate those categories to segment revenue when that requirement applies. Contract-balance disclosure should tie opening and closing receivables, contract assets, and contract liabilities to the statements and explain revenue from the opening liability and the significant modification effect.

The performance-obligation section should explain the devices and monitoring, satisfaction timing, payment terms, variable consideration, agent promises, returns, and warranties as applicable. Significant-judgment disclosure should explain methods, inputs, assumptions, and changes affecting amount and timing. The note also needs the applicable contract-cost disclosures.

Ending RPO is $1,250,000: $1,200,000 opening plus $800,000 of new allocated consideration, less a $50,000 modification effect, $650,000 of revenue, and $75,000 of cancellations, plus a $25,000 currency effect. The $750,000 next- 12-month band plus the $500,000 later band reconciles to that ending amount.

Northstar must identify its short-duration exemption and describe excluded obligations. It should explain consideration outside transaction price and RPO, including the constrained bonus. The local ASC text includes pending amendments, so the authority record must preserve effective-date status.

Backlog includes unsigned renewals and excludes cancellation assumptions used in the RPO population. It is therefore not the same measure. Neither RPO nor backlog guarantees revenue, cash, margin, or recognition timing. A useful comparison defines and reconciles the two populations.

The filing fact must retain registrant, form, accession, report period, note and table, units, scale, sign, tag, context, dimensions, and decimals. That evidence shows what Northstar filed; it does not validate the GAAP judgment.

The calculation checks only the supplied RPO bridge and timing-band total. It cannot decide scope, transaction price, recognition, exemptions, exchange rates, cancellation effects, filing identity, or disclosure compliance.
