Worked-example setupScope and assumptions
- The committed dataset preserves historical release values rather than claiming they are current estimates.
- Period
- 2024 annual and December 2024 release observations
- Units
- percent changes and percent-of-population rates as separately declared
- Rounding
- As reported in the cited releases
The snapshot contains 2.8% annual real-GDP growth, a 2.9% CPI-U twelve-month change, 4.1% unemployment, and 62.5% labor-force participation. A polished but invalid sentence says: “In December, 2.8% growth caused 2.9% inflation and left 4.1% of adults without jobs.”
Every clause breaks a control. The growth rate compares annual 2024 and 2023 levels; it is not a December rate. CPI uses an unadjusted twelve-month change. Unemployment is a seasonally adjusted share of the labor force, not all adults without work. Participation uses the civilian noninstitutional population.
The packet supplies observations, not a causal design. A controlled summary names each agency, series, period, denominator, adjustment, release date, and vintage on its own line. Comparison begins only after those labels survive.
