Misconception · MIS:balanced-workbook-means-release-ready

Mistaken idea “A balanced workbook means the change or correction is release-ready”

Mistaken reasoning: This mistake mistakes arithmetic controls for authority, evidence, materiality, audit, filing, tax, legal, control, and communication conclusions.

Updated Aug 21, 2026 Review due Nov 8, 2026

Why this is mistaken

A workbook can prove signed arithmetic and statement tie-outs. It cannot decide preferability, impracticability, materiality, information availability, auditor response, filing amendment, legal consequences, or control severity. Release requires named evidence and owners across the whole reporting package.
