Mistaken idea “Prospective means ignore the current-period effect”

Mistaken reasoning: Someone begins a supported estimate revision in the next fiscal year even though it affects the period of change.

Updated Aug 21, 2026 Review due Nov 8, 2026

Why this is mistaken

Prospective means from the change date forward. If the supported change affects the current period, record that effect now; future periods absorb only their applicable shares. Prior issued amounts remain intact unless the evidence instead supports error correction.
