Topic 280 uses a management approach. ASU 2023-07 adds significant-expense and related disclosures, applies the segment disclosure requirements to public entities with a single reportable segment, and expands interim information. The update's annual and interim effective dates have passed by this source record's verification date; current Codification paragraphs govern the actual report.

The current reportability sequence retains the three 10-percent tests for segment revenue, profit or loss, and assets. The profit-or-loss denominator is the greater absolute combined result of profitable segments or loss-making segments. Reportable segments must then include at least 75 percent of consolidated external revenue, with additional segments identified when needed. These calculations follow operating-segment identification and any supported aggregation; they do not create the operating-segment population.
