How these files fit the course
These files are optional and are not submitted. Each script computes its own answers, so the numbers it gives you follow the course method. The practice pages hold the fixed question sets; use a script when you want more questions or new facts.
Use a script with an AI assistant
Upload the script to ChatGPT, Claude, or a similar assistant. The script's opening text tells the assistant to run its self-test, generate questions from a seed, and hold the answer key until you answer. Ask for the seed so you can reproduce a set. A prompt that works:
Run the self-test in this file. Then give me three fill-in-the-blank
questions on income-statement subtotals, seed 12. Show one question at
a time. Show the answer key only after I answer.
Solve each question before you look at the key. If your method differs from the printed steps, find out why before moving on. Practice with these files is ungraded, so the course AI rules for ungraded activities apply.
Run a script on your computer
Each script needs only Python. Download the file, open a terminal in the folder that holds it, and run the commands listed with the file. A data file is a text file; open it in any editor.

Chapter 6 practice generator
Generates fill-in-the-blank and multiple-choice questions on income-statement subtotals, profit margins, two-year comparisons, misplaced items, and other comprehensive income. Every scenario is validated and every answer is computed by the script, with the steps shown.
Needs: Python 3.11 or later. No packages to install.

The authored facts behind Sable Ridge, Northline, and Granite Harbor: revenue, cost, operating expense, nonoperating, discontinued, and OCI amounts with their supplied judgments. The practice generator can solve any income-statement case in this file.
Needs: A text editor to read it. The generator needs the PyYAML package to load it.
